It’s a bit of a well-kept secret, but we had to get the word out: this place is seriously awesome! Walters Cove Resort caters to travelers who are looking for the absolute best in a fishing lodge, and they know how to create a top level experience all around. You’ll only be able to get there by boat or sea plane, and it’s completely remote so you can get far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. We wanted to give you an insight into this remarkable destination, and tell you about the features that set them ahead of the pack.
About the Lodge
Walters Cove Resort opened up in 2004, and was later purchased by the Kyuquot Checklesaht First Nations after a decade. Since taking over the lodge, they have brought in upgraded fishing boats and equipment, and made a number of renovations throughout. Thanks to the overhaul, Walters has become a luxury sportfishing destination, fit for the spectacular area it calls home. The lodge is staffed by local members of the Kyuqout Checklesaht community, and they have seen bookings multiply in the few years since acquiring the property. They even have a strong following of travelers who return to the Kyuqout Sound to stay each season. The Walters team is known for going out of their way to make your trip perfect, and their stellar customer service is what keeps people coming back.
A Secluded Paradise
Walter’s Cove Resort is located in Northwestern Vancouver Island, on the Kyuqout Sound; it’s an incredible place to fish due to natural features that bring the salmon, halibut and other species here. The lodge is situated right on the water, and surrounded by vast rugged scenery of the sound and terrain. It’s a hidden gem, just waiting for travelers to experience the beauty and tranquility that can be found amid the beaches, forests, and islands. There’s so much to do here, that you'll barely have time! From kayaking and paddle boarding on the water, to exploring the area on the trail system stemming from the lodge. The incredible remote setting and the potential for adventure makes Walters a real find among Vancouver Island fishing lodges.
Big Fish and Expert Guides
The fishing here is absolutely spectacular, with tons of fish traveling down the Vancouver Island highway, and stopping to feed at local reefs and hot spots. You’ll be able to catch chinook, coho, pink and chum salmon, halibut, ling, and rockfish. Recently, tuna has emerged as a new fishing opportunity, and Kyuquot is one of the few places with direct access. Many say the most consistent fishing can be found here in the Sound, and that could be why visitors often call the area the “best place to fish in BC”.
Walters Cove is the Kyuqout fishing lodge that can take you to the center of the action with knowledgeable guides who are dedicated to making your trip a complete success. The area is full of fishing holes in protected waters and open sea, giving guests plenty of opportunity to see (and catch) it all. Of course, the lodge is equipped to handle all of the processing, and packaging of your fish so you can take it home.
Walters Cove is an incredible Kyuqout fishing lodge, set directly on the water and surrounded by pristine wilderness; this gives guests convenient access to explore this special area right from the property. There are 9 guest rooms, and Walters will only ever host 16 guests at a time; this allows for an intimate experience for guests, with an emphasis on personal attention. The equal guest-to-staff ratio ensures that you’ll have any request met promptly. You can even arrange personalized service, such as a special meal, or a romantic picnic on a hidden beach (try topping that date!).
For travelers looking for the exclusive fishing lodge experience, it can certainly be found here. Walters Cove is a destination for groups large and small, from couples to corporate getaways, they can always accommodate. It’s the kind of place you can book for that special occasion, because everything will be seamless, start to finish.
The Kyuqout Experience
When you come to Walters Cove, you’ll definitely want to take part in their beach barbecue. This traditional barbecue is a chance for guests to participate in the culture of the Kyuqout, and have an experience that is one of a kind. Your hosts share their tradition for barbecuing salmon, and the results are exquisite. Additionally, guests are invited to visit ancient heritage sites and tour the local First Nations village of Kyuquot. It’s a great way for groups to tour the area, and experience the surroundings after a day of fishing.
Travelers are sure to have an exciting adventure out on the water, as well as a relaxing retreat in the lodge. The location is more remote than most Vancouver Island fishing lodges, which adds to the overall experience. Throughout the duration of your stay, everything will be taken care of so you and your group can have a carefree vacation, complete with luxurious touches. Come see what’s in store at this remarkable lodge. It’s sure to be unforgettable.
